The Yaqui, (or Yoeme as they call themeselves) live in the Northern Mexcian state of Sonora. Every year on the Saturday before Easter, masked Yaqui men representing Chapayekas, the soldiers of the Pharisees, participate in a Holy Saturday procession wearing these masks. The dance is a merging of native and Catholic European traditions.
